How ChallengeMinds handles your information
Last updated October 9, 2026
Draft for the ChallengeMinds Beta. This text is waiting for review and may change before the beta opens to everyone.
ChallengeMinds is a learning platform operated by [Legal operator name: awaiting confirmation] ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can, use it only to run ChallengeMinds, and never sell it or use it for advertising.
Who can use ChallengeMinds
- Adults (18 and over) and teens aged 13 to 17 can have their own account.
- Children under 13 cannot create an account. We don't ask for a birth date: only an age group (13–17 or 18+).
- During the beta, accounts are by invitation only.
What we collect
- Account: email address, the display name you choose (a first name or nickname is fine), your age group and your settings.
- Learning records: courses started, answers, hints used, game results, progress and mastery checks.
- What you send us: course requests, questions to the AI tutor, feedback and problem reports.
- Technical data needed for security and reliability, such as sign-in times, approximate request rates and error logs. We don't use advertising trackers.
Teens aged 13 to 17
- Teen accounts get the same privacy protections as adults, plus stricter defaults: no public profiles or leaderboards, and no messaging between learners.
- Teens can't take on parent or teacher roles.
- We encourage teens to review this policy with a parent or guardian. A parent can ask us to see or delete their teen's information.
Teachers and schools
- Teachers can create classes. Learners join with a private class code, and a teacher sees the progress of learners in their classes only.
- When a school uses ChallengeMinds, student records are used only to provide the service to that school. We don't use them for advertising or sell them, and we delete them when the school asks or when they're no longer needed. A school may need a separate agreement with us before using ChallengeMinds with its students. During the beta we don't sign school agreements, so teachers should use ChallengeMinds only in line with their school's rules.
- Teachers see learners' display names and learning records, not their email addresses.
Parents and future child profiles
Parents can link to their own account and see the progress their teen chooses to share. We plan to let parents add profiles for children under 13. That feature is turned off during the beta and will only be turned on after we have verifiable parental consent, a children's privacy notice and the legal review it needs. Child profiles will collect only a nickname and age group, never an email address.
AI processing
- We use an AI provider (currently Anthropic) to write course material and to answer tutor questions.
- We send the AI only what it needs: the topic, level and lesson context, plus your question. We don't send your name, email address or account details.
- Under its commercial terms, our AI provider does not train its models on this data by default. AI writing is checked automatically, and important courses are reviewed by people.
- AI can make mistakes. Please don't include personal details about yourself or others in requests or questions.
Service providers
These companies process data on our behalf, under contracts and their own security commitments:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (United States).
- Vercel: website hosting and delivery.
- Anthropic: AI writing and tutoring.
- An email delivery provider: account and password emails.
We share information only with these providers, with the parents and teachers you link to, or when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account and learning records: while your account is open.
- Tutor conversations: 30 days, to check for misuse, then deleted.
- When you close your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited by account role and checked by the database itself. Answer keys stay on our servers. No system is perfectly secure; we'll tell affected users about any breach as the law requires.
Your rights and choices
- See and change your details on your Profile page.
- Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it.
- Unlink from a parent or teacher, or leave a class, at any time.
- Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have further rights. We honour them for all users.
Changes
We'll tell you about important changes before they take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
